Being a Mom: How to Find Yourself Again
I’m going to start off and ask a question. Who am I? I would like you to think about that for a second and read farther down as I struggle with the answer.
The other day I was talking to my bestie who is a new mom. We were catching up on life and how much things change after being a mom. Other than the lack of sleep and lack of freedom, one thing that I can’t get out of my head is this thought: Who am I now that I am a mom of twins? Yes, I know that I am a booboo kisser, lunch maker, house cleaner, diaper changer, taxi driver, cook and literally EVERYTHING under the sun that comes with being a mom. But seriously, WHO IS CHARITY PIAZZA?
When I think about all those things I listed above, they are really just tasks that come with being a mom. And that is the PROBLEM!! I was LOSING myself with the day in and day out “tasks” that soon became the definition of who I am. I think this is happening because all of these things take up my entire day and there is no time for the personal stuff that make who I am. I have heard about filling up your “cup” first before filling up the cups of others but come on… you know that we are THE LAST to think of ourselves as moms. And then when we do, we feel guilty because we think that we should have been thinking of our kids and husbands instead.
So here it is. Starting now I am going to find at least one or two things that I did prior to having kids and start doing those more on the regular. But just “saying” that I will do them is pointless unless I actually make the time for them! So the first step to doing this is to get my husband on board. His support is crucial to making this actually work. My plan is to set aside one hour per day for myself to reconnect with who I actually am, other than a mom with twins.
When I sat down and thought about the other passions in my life besides being a mom, I came up with running, reading, and writing. Running clears my mind and gives me a natural high, reading let’s me to escape reality for a bit and writing allows me to express myself. My goal is to do one of those things daily and give back to myself so that I can in turn be a better mom, wife and friend. I will track my progress in my stories on Instagram in hopes that if I know you are all out there holding me accountable then I will stay on track.
I encourage you to do this with me! I would love to see you give back to YOURSELF and live a more balanced life! Feel free to share your goals in the comments below or email me so that I can support you in any way that I can!
I’ve got your back and am here for you girl!
Until next time,
